Achieving Success Tutoring Services

Hi, I have two degrees, one in English and one in Communications, from Rutgers New Brunswick where I was employed as a tutor for 7 semesters. While studying at Rutgers I tutored basic composition, expository writing, ESL writing (advanced and basic), research writing, and technical writing. My SAT scores was a combined 1830 with a 630 for critical writing, a 540 for math, and a 660 for my writing sample. Now that the technical matters are taken care of, I will tell you a bit about myself. ...

ADD/ADHD

I have been diagnosed myself since I entered college and, as someone who suffers from a chronic pain disability, I have found it difficult to maintain focus oftentimes as well. During my time tutoring in college one of my students was diagnosed with ADHD and I managed to help him get through his course without the help of medication. Furthermore, as an ADHD sufferer myself I have found that some medications can help. That being said, medication should be carefully controlled, and sometimes minimal. The biggest change has to come from within the student themselves; I know. Textbook outline format teaching, when coupled with a strict study regimen of review material and testing, can help students a lot. ADHD students who have more extreme difficulty maintaining focus on a single subject can shift from one study topic to another with smaller tests and outlines instead. I am sensitive to the emotional needs of people and children and do not take anyone's kids lightly. I am serious but pleasant and can keep a student on focus without stressing them out.
